Contractors’ workshops

This month we have started to offer our wholesale customers the chance to have dedicated topic training for their staff.

We have been delighted with the interest and a number of workshops dedicated to particular skills have been put in place.

Local contractors have opted to spend a couple of hours brushing up skills used in the preparation of a garden for winter, including comprehensive pruning lessons, cutting back and deadheading, autumn/winter colour, bulb planting – best times, perennial planting – what/what not to plant, tree planting, splitting and dividing herbaceous perennials, overwintering shrubs, mulching and cleaning and storing tools.

If you are interested in upskilling your team then get in touch with us to talk over any training requirements you may have. Contact Sue on our Nursery number or email her.

Bareroot season almost here

Bareroot season from November-April is a great time for significant savings on hedge planting. Dormant plants are carefully lifted from the ground and supplied with their roots securely wrapped in plastic to retain the moisture (without pots). If you would like to plant a new hedge then get in touch and we can give you a price for the kind of plants you’d like. Beech, Hawthorn, Ash, Birch, Privet, Dogwood, Gean, Rowan and Rose are all sold in bundles of 25x. As these plants are lifted from the ground to order, delivery times are approx 1-3 weeks.

Open Day and BBQ September 2010

On 10th September 2010 we held our 4th annual Open Day and BBQ at the Nursery.

We had a fabulous sunny afternoon with a record attendance, the BBQ was a great success with many thanks to our acting chef, Mich.

The Nursery looked fantastic due to all the hard work put in by Sue, Euan, Michelle and Rob.

We were joined this year by local suppliers Beatsons Building Supplies, Damhead Organics, and Scottish Kitchen Harvest (the jam from Scottish Kitchen Harvest was delicious).

A great afternoon enjoyed by all.

How is your garden in winter?

In November garden designer June Tainsh of Greenweaver gave an afternoon talk entitled ‘Your Garden in Winter’ where attendees learned how to plan a garden so that it looks good all year round and what plants give you the most value and interest during the winter months. After the talk we all ventured into the poly tunnel to try our hand at planting up a winter container. With cake and coffee abundant it was an afternoon enjoyed by all.
